The gear most detectorists buy in their first month. Tick any and it goes in the cart together.
A fully IP68-rated machine with an 11.5 inch coil โ built for the wet ground most detectors have to stay out of. Wet sand, tidelines and shallow water are where waves sort heavy items and drop them, and this is a detector you can take there without thinking about it. Two search modes filter the junk, 7.2 kHz keeps it steady on coins, silver and relics, and six AA batteries run it all day.

Two Modes That Do the Filtering for You
Most of what a detector finds is junk. Nails, bottle caps, foil, pull tabs โ dig every one and you will spend the afternoon on rubbish.
Discrimination mode rejects those low-value metals so you only stop for targets worth digging. Ground Balance mode handles the other problem: it tunes out the signal the soil itself produces, which is what stops a machine chattering on mineralised ground, wet sand and iron-rich earth.
Between them you can adapt to almost any site โ run open where the ground is clean, filter hard where it is trashy.
IP68: Genuinely Built for Water
IP68 is a full submersion rating, not a splash rating. Wet sand, tidelines, stream edges, shallow water and a proper rinse at the end of the day are all within what this machine is built for.
That matters on a beach more than anywhere else. The productive ground is the wet ground โ where waves sort heavy items and drop them โ and it is exactly where equipment that is only weather-resistant starts to fail.
A Large Coil Covers Ground Fast
At 11.5 inches the coil sweeps a wide path, which is what you want on open ground: beaches, fields, parks and anywhere you are searching for a productive patch rather than working a known one. Wider sweeps mean fewer passes to cover an area, and more depth on larger targets.
7.2 kHz: Sensitivity Without the False Signals
Frequency decides what a detector hears best. Lower frequencies see further on large, highly conductive targets โ silver coins, copper, brass relics and jewellery โ and tend to run more stably with fewer false signals.
At 7.2 kHz this sits in the general-purpose range: steady, reliable performance on coins, rings and relics, which is what most detectorists actually recover on a normal day out.
Audio You Can Actually Hear
A built-in speaker means you can hunt without headphones โ useful on a quiet beach, or when you want to stay aware of what is around you. Plug headphones in for windy days or busy sites, and set the volume on either.
Audio is where finds are won. A target at the edge of range arrives as a faint, brief change in tone rather than a confident beep, and a comfortable volume setting is what lets you hear it.
Simple to Pick Up, Light to Carry
Two modes, a volume control and a sensitivity setting โ enough to work with, not so much that a first-time user stalls in a menu on the beach. The ABS body keeps the weight down for carrying to a site rather than driving to it, and six AA batteries at 0.6 W give long sessions with no proprietary pack to replace.
About Detection Range
The 1.5 m figure applies to large buried objects in cooperative ground. Real depth on any detector depends on target size, metal purity, how compacted and mineralised the soil is, and how slowly and flatly you swing the coil.
Treat published figures as a way of comparing machines rather than a promise about your own ground. Coin-sized targets sit comfortably within range; 1.5 m is for something substantial.
