Why a Package Rather Than Just a Detector

Almost everyone buys a detector first, then spends the next two months working out what else they needed. It is nearly always the same two things: something to pinpoint the target once the hole is open, and something to open the hole with.

Ask experienced detectorists what changed their finds rate most and very few say a better detector. Most say a pinpointer. A recovery without one takes several minutes of sifting loose soil by hand; with one it takes seconds. Across a four-hour session that is the difference between fifteen targets and forty — and more targets recovered is what actually fills a finds pouch.

The digger matters for a different reason. A purpose-made tool cuts a clean plug that lifts out whole and drops back in, leaving the ground looking untouched. That is why landowners renew permissions and why public sites stay open to detectorists. It takes about the same effort to do it properly.
